josé barría
architect & founder of entrópica
and father of chalupa 🐶
intro
jose barría is an architect from panamá with a focus on how buildings perform in the real world. after years working in design, sustainability, and industrial hvac, he founded entrópica as a space to bring those disciplines together.
his work moves between architecture, research, and consulting, always starting from energy. from small studies to large projects, the goal is the same: make buildings that use less, last longer, and adapt to the climate around them.
education
B. Arch - Isthmus (2014)
M. Environmental Building Design - University of Pennsylvania (2017)
expertise
his expertise combines architecture with technical depth. he has worked with energy modeling, daylighting, and cfd simulations to guide design decisions. his background in industrial refrigeration and hvac adds another layer, linking building performance to mechanical systems. this mix allows him to move comfortably between design studios, engineering teams, and sustainability consultancies, always translating data into clear strategies for better buildings.

background
jose began his career in panamá with pentagrama, an architecture studio he co-founded that delivered award-winning projects across residential, commercial, and institutional sectors. his interest in sustainability led him to the panama green building council in 2013 and later to the university of pennsylvania, where he earned a master’s in environmental building design. after returning to panamá, he expanded his practice through collaborations on large housing projects, cultural buildings, and environmental consulting. today, through entrópica, he focuses on bridging design and science to create energy-first buildings in the tropics and beyond.
let’s get to work.
